- Yumi Kobayashi / Dj Yummy
Based in Tokyo, Yumi weaves together a deep reverence for nature with the urban aesthetics of house music to craft a radical, original sonic narrative. Through her uniquely curated sets, she seeks to evoke imagined landscapes that extend beyond the five senses.
Her career was launched when her talent was recognized in a prestigious global DJ audition during her student years, leading to regular appearances at iconic clubs like Womb and ageHa, as well as performances at festivals and venues around the world. She became the first Japanese artist to perform in the main room of Privilage (now UNVRS) in Ibiza, which was officially recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world’s largest nightclub at the time.
Yumi's pursuit of emotionally resonant spaces goes beyond DJing. Her ventures into production include songwriting and composing with full orchestras, as well as the release of Tokiwa, supported by Argentinian legend Hernan Cattaneo. These works have built bridges with listeners across genres and cultures.
Her live performance on YouTube’s High In Japan was selected by Mixmag Asia as one of the Best DJ Streams of 2020.
Under multiple aliases and public personas, Yumi has also contributed to elevating the image and cultural recognition of DJs in Japan. Her efforts span from appearances on domestic and international TV and commercials, to founding a private DJ school, and authoring a DJ column in Jump Comics.
